Ramifications of Supreme Court’s Decision to Uphold Sale of Greek Orthodox Properties: Tour and Briefing with Ateret Cohanim and Arab Tenants

June 21, 2022PAST EVENT

On June 8, the Supreme Court rejected the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate’s appeal against the Ateret Cohanim organization’s take-over of three buildings in Jerusalem’s Old City.

The decision ended the Greek Orthodox Church’s efforts to fight a 2004 sale of leases for two hotels near the Jaffa Gate and a third property in the Christian Quarter. As a result of the changes in status to the Imperial and Petra hotels, Arab tenants suddenly face the prospect of being evicted.

The event included a meeting with both sides, during which participants will hear from the various affected parties about the current legal status and other related issues.
