On August 2, the LGBTQ community will celebrate the Jerusalem March for Pride and Tolerance. It has been going on for over 15 years and symbolizes a persistent struggle for equal rights.
This year, the march will take place during a tumultuous time for the community since the Knesset just passed a law covering surrogacy rights to single women and women medically unable to have children. However, the law does not address surrogacy options for same sex couples and gay men who are interested in fathering children through a surrogate mother.
In response this past Sunday, thousands of Israelis took part in an unprecedented nationwide strike and major protests in cities across the country organized by the country’s LGBTQ community.
Scheduled to participate:
Mr. Ofer Erez – CEO of the Open House for the Gay Community in Jerusalem
Mr. Eyal Luria Pardes – LGBTQ Activist. Was arrested during the last demonstration
Mrs. Zoharit Shorek – LGBTQ Activist. A religious woman and mother who came out as lesbian at the age of 29
Attorney Hagai Kalai – Specializes in administrative and constitutional litigation. He has submitted petitions to the High Court of Justice aiming to regulate surrogacy in Israel
A representative from the Association of Israeli Gay Fathers
