On April 13, Hamas started a new method of combat against Israel and several incendiary kites were flown into Israel. Since then, the “aerial terror offensive” against the Gaza border communities has continued with greater vigor, including hundreds of incendiary kites flown into Israel’s territory, 600 fires, 8,800 acres of natural woodland and 11,000 acres defined as nature reserves destroyed. This caused millions of shekels worth of damage to the farmers of the area.
The fight against the relatively new threat consists of both offensive and defensive actions by the IDF, including aerial attacks of Hamas’ posts as retaliation for launching incendiary kites into Israel.
The tour will focus on the developments, escalation, and the Israeli response, both in terms of security and in the civilian aspect.
The field tour will include:
Security and strategic briefing by Lt.-Col. (res.) Yom Tov Samia, Served as commander of the Southern Command from 1997-2001 and from 2006-2015 as deputy commander of the Southern Command in times of emergency.
Briefing by Lt.-Col. (res.) Alon Eviatar, Expert on Hamas and Palestinian Affairs*
Meeting with Dr. Noga Gulst, Resident of Kibbutz Mefalsim and head of business entrepreneurship in Shaar Hanegev
Meeting with Mr. Dani Rachmim, Farmer from Kibbutz Nahal Oz, Whose grain field was hit directly, burning hundreds of acres of wheat
Visit to Black Arrow Memorial, Asaf Siboni Observation Point and damaged grain field in Kibbutz Nahal Oz
Sandwiches and lunch will be provided
Bus will depart from MediaCentral, HaRav Kook 7 at 8:00am sharp
