The “Iron Swords” war broke out in the early morning hours of October 7—fifty years and one day from the start of the 1973 Yom Kippur War. The number of Jews killed was the most on one day since the Holocaust and Israelis have witnessed atrocities that they never thought would be repeated. MediaCentral was the first to help foreign journalists in the country get updated on what exactly was going on with a Zoom conference just hours after the war erupted. We have continued to follow the resulting military operations and have assisted the more than one thousand reporters who have been sent to the region to cover the events.
Nov. 26: Coming Home: Adva Adar, Granddaughter of Released Hostage Yaffa Adar, and Merav Mor Raviv, Cousin of Released Hostage Keren Munder, in First Online Update Since Their Relatives’
Release
Yaffa Adar, 85 years old, was kidnapped from her home in Kibbutz Nir Oz. A video of her being taken into Gaza on a golf cart driven by Hamas terrorists went viral shortly after.
Yaffa has three children (Moshe, Vered and Erez), eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. One of her grandchildren, Tamir Adar (38) was kidnapped alongside her and is still held under Hamas captivity. Tamir has two children – Neta (3) and Assaf (7).
Keren Munder, 54 years old, is the mother of Ohad (9) and the daughter of Ruthy (78), released with her. She is a beloved teacher in special education and a children’s volleyball coach. She is a highly respected and prize-winning teacher in a school in Bnei Brak, where they say there isn’t a child she hasn’t reached out to and given her heart to.
In addition to her coaching, she plays volleyball at an amateur league.
On Oct. 7 her family members were supposed to wake up in the morning and drive to a family gathering for the holiday. All of them were at the home of Avraham and Ruthy, the grandparents.
Avraham Munder, Ruthy’s husband, Keren’s father and Ohad’s grandfather, is still under Hamas captivity.
Adva Adar, Yaffa’s granddaughter and Merav Mor Raviv, Keren’s cousin, will join us to talk about their much-anticipated reunions and the joy mixed with sadness as the families wait for Tamir and Avraham to return.
