Incitement or History? Israeli-Palestinian Curriculum Debate Rages

April 4, 2017PAST EVENT

US President Donald Trump and Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas are slated to meet this month. According to senior PA officials, Abbas is expected to renew his commitment to combating anti-Israel incitement. This may prove challenging in light of the recent IMPACT-se study which found that the new Palestinian curricula is significantly more radical than in previous years, denying the existence of Israel and focus on a “return” to an exclusively Palestinian homeland.

According to recent reports, UNRWA is also planning to introduce some changes to its curriculum in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Palestinians claim the changes are intended to “eradicate” their “national identity,” “history,” and distort their “struggle” and resistance against Israel.

Speakers addressed the findings of the report and their implications for the peace process and the future of relations between Israel and the Palestinians.

Marcus Sheff, CEO of IMPACT-se & Arik Agassi, Chief Operating Officer of IMPACT-se discussed the current status in the PA, Israel, and other countries in the Middle East, with a focus on the newly released PA curriculum Grades 1-4.
