ICC Approves War Crimes Investigation Against Israel – Panel on Jurisdiction, Significance and Implications

Last Friday the International Criminal Court at the Hague approved an investigation into Israel, to examine alleged war crimes.

International Law experts, attorneys Yael Vias Gvirsman and Daniel Pomerantz, will discuss the controversial decision, legal relevance and possible implications both to Israel and also to other countries that could be impacted by this important precedent, including the United States.

Vias Gvirsman is the Founder and Director of the International Criminal and Humanitarian Law (ICHL) Clinic at the Radzyner Law School, Interdisciplinary Center (IDC), Herzliya. An independent attorney specializing in international criminal law, international human rights law and international humanitarian law, Gvirsman practiced as a litigator at the ICC. Today Gvirsman’s private practice focuses on the representation of victims of international crimes who are also asylum seekers: a doubly vulnerable population.

Pomerantz is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center, and began his career as an attorney for major international law firms in New York and Chicago. Pomerantz now lectures at the Bar Ilan University in Tel Aviv and the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC), Herzliya, he is a contributing writer to Newsweek and the Jerusalem Post as an expert on international law, and serves as both CEO and legal correspondent to the NGO HonestReporting.
