The relationship between the Arab leadership and the Jerusalem municipality is complex involving patterns of cooperation, coordination and conflict over improving conditions in the Arab neighborhoods.

The tour will address the neglect of neighborhoods outside of the security barrier, the municipality taking over UNRWA responsibilities in the Shu’fat refugee camp, as well as the status of education, service, infrastructure and security, and coordination between the different government and non-government organizations.

The half-day tour will include:

  • Briefing with Fleur Hassan-Nahoum, Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem.
  • Tour of Arab neighborhoods with Ben Avrahami, Deputy Adviser to the Mayor of Jerusalem on Eastern Jerusalem Affairs.
  • Visit to Shu’fat Refugee Camp’s community center and meet with residents.
  • Briefing with an Israeli police commander at the Shu’fat checkpoint on security and services provided by municipality in the camp.
  • Visit to Isawiyeh’s community center and meet with center’s director Rabab Issawi and residents.
The first briefing will take place at the deputy mayor’s office in the municipality at 10 AM
