Al Qaida’s Nusra Front, together with other rebel militias, captured parts of the Quneitra region on the border with Israel, including the crossing area, after heavy fighting on Wednesday. The crossing is monitored by the UN, through the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF); today Al Arabiya reported that some UNDOF soldiers have been kidnapped.
Two Israelis were wounded, a soldier and a civilian, yesterday, by mortar fire from Syrian territory; Israel responded with targeted artillery fire. Rockets fired from Lebanon also landed in the Golan and Upper Galilee last week.
With the growing interest in the Golan, MediaCentral is organizing a field tour to see and discuss its military, political, historical, geographical and political complexities.
