TODAY! Thursday, February 21 at 3PM – The Sharp Rise of Antisemitism in Europe with the Jewish Agency’s Yigal Palmor and Recent Jewish-European Immigrants

February 21, 2019PAST EVENT
The rise of antisemitism is constantly making news all over Europe. According to figures released in recent days, the number of antisemitic incidents recorded in Germany reached 1,646 last year, nearly 10% more than the previous year. The 2018 total included 62 physical attacks, up from 37 in 2017.
France, home to the largest Jewish community in Europe, has seen a 74% increase in antisemitic acts, according to French authorities, with 311 incidents recorded in 2017, compared with 541 in 2018.
Seven British politicians left the Labour opposition because of the party’s perceived failure to tackle anti-Semitism in its ranks. A distinguished French-Jewish intellectual, Alain Finkelkraut, was publicly assaulted and taunted in the street.
Mr. Yigal Palmor is the Director of Public Affairs and Communications of the Jewish Agency for Israel. He was the Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Israel from August 2008 to August 2014. He also served as Deputy Director of the European Institutions department, and later as Director of the Maghreb, Syria and Lebanon department. In February 2013, he was elected “Best Government Spokesperson” in a survey of Israeli journalists.
In addition to Mr. Palmor, two Jewish-European immigrants from France and the UK will be joining the panel.
The event will take place at MediaCentral’s office – 7 HaRav Kook St, Jerusalem
