The City of David, birthplace of Jerusalem, is where King David established his kingdom. But it is also an archaeological park presenting the story of the establishment of Jerusalem. Since 2007 archaeologist Dr. Doron Ben-Ami has been conducting a comprehensive excavation in the ‘Givati’ parking lot, west of the entrance to the City of David and just below the walls of the Old City and Temple Mount. The largest archaeological excavation in Jerusalem today, it contains multiple layers of the city’s life from the middle ages all the way back to biblical times.
This unique tour will include an exploration of the King David Palace, a building from Second Temple era, and more; the focus is on history and archaeology.
The visit included:
Briefings with Dr. Gabi Barkay, a world-renowned archaeologist and expert on ancient Jerusalem, and other archaeologists.
Guided tour of City of David and new excavations in the ‘Givati’ lot.
