Israeli cabinet approved the construction of the first new community in Judea and Samaria /West Bank since the Oslo peace accords were signed in 1993.
The new settlement, Amichai, “My Nation Lives” or “Amona Lives”, is being built in the Shilo Valley, north of Ramallah. It is intended to house the 42 families the Israeli government evacuated from Amona in February.
Yesh Din filed an appeal to the Supreme Court on behalf of the Palestinian village of Jalud to prevent the Binyamin Regional Council from building Amichai.
MediaCentral introduced journalists to former residents of Amona, toured their living quarters, met Amona’s spokesperson, toured the new construction site of Amichai, and were briefed about Yesh Din’s objections.
