Analysis with Gaith al-Omari, Senior Fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy During Israel-Gaza Ceasefire

August 9, 2022PAST EVENT
Israel’s three-day Operation Breaking Dawn against Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) has ended with a ceasefire that was brokered by Egypt.
Notably, the Gaza-based Hamas terrorist organization did not join PIJ in its latest fight against Israel.
How will the relations between Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Hamas be affected? Will the operation against PIJ lead to an escalation of violence in the West Bank? Will Egypt be able to implement the ceasefire conditions? Will the truce hold?
Gaith al-Omari will analyze and evaluate the latest developments.
Ghaith al-Omari, a senior fellow at the Washington Institute’s Irwin Levy Family Program on the US-Israel Strategic Relationship, is the former executive director of the American Task Force on Palestine. He served as advisor to the negotiating team during the 1999–2001 permanent-status talks, in addition to holding various other positions within the Palestinian Authority.
