The Middle East is going through turmoil, from the US withdrawal from Syria to the recent Iranian attack on Saudi oil tanker. The attack of the Saudi tanker, showed an emboldened Iran, prepared to take new daring risks, based in part on the assessment that President Trump, as well as the Saudis and other Gulf states, is not interested in severe escalation. On Nov 4, Iran is expected to announce a further breach of the international nuclear agreement, indicating, yet again, no intentions of backing down. Iran poses a series of long term and short term challenges to Israel. On the strategic level, the nuclear program and its ramifications is at the foreground, alongside the advanced missile program, both of which constitute a major strategic threat to Israel’s national security. Researchers on the panel will address US-Iran relations, Iran and the region, the Iran’s nuclear program, how all these issues impact Israeli policy making, and other related matters. The INSS researchers scheduled to participate are: * Dr. Ephraim Kam, Senior Research Fellow and former deputy director (Iran and the region). |
