3 Years to Protected Edge: Changes in Hamas and Israeli Security

This Saturday marks three years since Operation Protective Edge began. While the border seems quiet and Hamas is growing increasingly isolated; both Israel and Hamas are preparing for the next expected, imminent conflict. Hamas is expanding it’s tunnel network. In response, Israel’s Ministry of Defense recently started working on an underground tunnel barrier.

Hamas is under increasing political and economic pressure since recently senior Hamas officials were expelled from Qatar and no country welcomed them, and the Palestinian Authority requested Israel cut Gaza’s electricity supply.

Our speakers discussed the current status between Hamas and Israel.

Dr. Maj. Gen. (res.) Yom Tov Samia- head of the Israel Defense Forces’ Reserves Southern Command. He is a research fellow in the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism in IDC Herzliya.

Dr. Ronni Shaked- is an expert on Palestinian affairs.He has written four books about the Middle East, including “Hamas-The Islamic Movement.” He is the Middle East and Islam Research Unit Coordinator at the Truman Research Institute at Hebrew University.
