Federica Mogherini, the EU foreign policy chief, arrives in the region tomorrow (Wednesday) for talks with Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu, Opposition leader Isaac Herzog and Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas.
The EU is reported to be interested in picking up where Washington has left off in trying to get the Israelis and the Palestinians back to the negotiating table. This even though some EU members are calling for increasing the diplomatic pressure against Israel and advancing pro-Palestinian resolutions at the UN.
Our speakers will discuss the Israel-EU relationship and whether the 28-member organization can play a central, balanced role in renewing the Israel-Palestinian peace process in light of the new Israeli government and continuing Palestinian efforts to take the conflict to the international arena.
Our speaker Dr. Oded Eran is a former ambassador to EU and Jordan. He also served on the negotiating team with the Palestinians under Prime Minister Ehud Barak.
