MediaCentral and the Center for Democracy and Community Development are pleased to invite members of the foreign press to
A special forum for the foreign press on
Liberal Democracy in Palestinian Society
Tuesday, June 16, 12pm - 2pm
at the American Colony Hotel, Jerusalem:
Leaders of the movement for Palestinian democracy will present and discuss the importance and development of civil society norms and institutions, and liberal democracy, in Palestinian society. This forum will present insiders’ views into the individuals and projects promoting freedom in Palestinian society, from a number of perspectives, and will include remarks, discussion, and extensive opportunities for Q&A. The panel will include:
- Walid Salem, director of CDCD – The Center for Democracy and Community Development in Jerusalem.
- Mohamad Dajani, founder of the Wasatia moderate Islamic political party and social movement.
- Saman Khoury of Panorama – The Palestinian Center for the Dissemination of Democracy & Community Development.
Other Palestinian activists involved in the promotion of liberal democratic values in Palestinian society will also join in the discussion.
There are some 100 civil society organizations working in the Palestinian territories on issues as diverse as women's empowerment, combating domestic violence and encouraging civic responsibility - but the individuals and organizations promoting liberal democracy in Palestinian society are rarely heard from, as they ply their trade quietly and without fanfare.
